“Everything changes when you start to emit your own frequency rather than absorbing the frequencies around you, when you start imprinting your intent on the universe rather than receiving an imprint from existence.”
Who am I? I struggle to answer this question. Partly because I am many different things to many different people and situations. Partly because sometimes the difference between who I am and who I want to be isn’t so clear. But mainly because the answer keeps changing as I bring more experiences and challenges into my life.
In simple terms, I am a girl with dreams and the stubborn determination to go chasing after them. In the end, I often find myself asking a much more important question than who I am. And that is “Am I happy being who I am?” Thankfully, most of the time, the answer to this is yes. But it wasn’t always like this and like most people, I too, have struggles.
I am a dreamer, fitness addict, martial artist, yogi, runner, swimmer, adventurer, foodie, baker, maker of things, cat enthusiast, a little bit of a geek, occasional gamer, a lifestyle coach, blogger, amateur writer and last but not least, also a very much human 9-5 office worker in London.
My fitness addiction started with martial arts 5 years ago, when I first picked up HEMA – historical martial arts (sword fighting – odd, right?). From there, I plucked up the courage to finally join a Taekwondo school as it was my dream to achieve black belt level with one of the Asian martial arts. That’s when I really fell in love with martial arts and took up kickboxing/MMA as well. I have since obtained the black belt I wanted so badly with my Taekwondo school and now have my eyes set on a Kickboxing black belt.
I have always been a keen swimmer which led me to obtain my swimming instructor licence so I could teach as well as train. Alongside swimming, I am also a frequent gym goer where I look for new challenges and strive to push the limits as well as inspire others.
I never felt like a runner yet I foolishly agreed to do a New Year’s Day run last year which I enjoyed more than I expected to. That quickly developed and I ended up training for my first half marathon which I ran in March 2018. Since then, I have been running smaller runs occasionally, up until recently when, in a moment of madness, I signed up for the New Forest Marathon in September. I now have some catching up to do, to build up to a reasonable, sustainable pace that won’t have me toppling over. I always welcome training partners – Whether it’s running together or simply supporting each other in spirit (virtually?).
We all overdo it sometimes. In an attempt to find some less impulsive body movement while still having new challenges, I took up yoga in 2019. I have made some amazing progress since, both in flexibility and strength and managed to get my body into poses I never imagined. Yoga is now a regular part of my weekly workout routine and I enjoy creating my own flows.
There are few things that can rival my love of workouts but baking and eating are definitely up there. I have been baking since I can remember (I did need a box to stand on to reach the worktop!). I regularly bake for my friends or colleagues, partly because I am just that nice and partly because I can’t justify eating the whole tray on my own. Being creative as well, I will find interesting ways to decorate my creations as well just for the hell of it. Evidently, I love eating as well – both home cooked food and the occasional dining experience in a restaurant which often leads to more inspiration for new recipes.
Sometimes there are just too many ideas in my head and the only way I can sleep is to get them out there so I will end up sketching, designing, making, painting or writing, often based on fantasy-inspired content that I’ve acquired through the games I have played.
Throughout all of this, my feline companion watches over me (quite literally) and tries to join in on most things I do, often much to my annoyance and I imagine her amusement. I have always had a soft spot for cats so it’s no surprise I love this one to bits.
I take great pride and satisfaction in all of the above. However, what I find even more fulfilling is giving back – making people smile, improving lives, helping out where I can and with that, doing something meaningful and kind in this world.
Let’s do this, let’s live, challenge, inspire, support and connect!
